How To Find The Cheapest Flights

Add a heading 7

Are you cheap? I am! When vacation planning, the main goal is to stay within a budget so I can spend more of my money on the fun stuff. I wish I could tell you that I have found the magic solution to booking an inexpensive flight, but I can’t. I have found that most methods are inconsistent. What I have noted with consistency is the old adage supply and demand still holds true. So, buying your ticket way in advance means there is more supply, but later as the numbers of seats are less, the price goes up. In this blog, I will be giving you a few helpful hints that you can test for yourself to see if you can save too.

Tracking your search

One of the things that most of us forget that as we are searching on the internet is that the web browser is saving cookies in regards to what you are searching. If you are searching a particular route frequently, you may have noticed that the flight price appears to fluctuate; the goal is to frighten you to buy thinking that the price will continue to go up. The best way to avoid this is to search in a private browsing mode. You can also clear your history after every search.

If you want to earn free flights and also reduce the price of your flight, then points are for you. The best way to do this is to sign up for an airline rewards card or credit card where you earn points for purchases. This is a sure-fire way to ensure that you are getting the lowest ticket price and gain points to possibly earn a free flight. This is a highly recommended way to save and earn free miles towards air travel.

Budget airlines

These airlines offer very low fares, but you will find you get what you pay for. Budget flights tend to have less legroom and there are fewer amenities, such as free drinks and peanuts during your flight. But, if you are like me, these are concessions I am willing to take, so that I may have extra cash for my vacation.

Don’t wait to book

Flights do not get cheaper close to the departure date.  Most flight prices will actually increase the closer you get to the travel date. So, if you know where and when you are going, it is best to book it as soon as possible to get the lowest rates. When booking a flight in the continental U.S., on average, 70 days in advance appears to be the best time to buy tickets.

Winter booking 62 days in advance can possibly save you over $200 on your fare.

Spring booking 90 days in advance is recommended, because the fare increases during these months.

Summer is the most popular time to travel, with July being the months in most demand. So, it is recommended that you buy your tickets at least 47 days in advance to get bargain prices.

August and September are the months with the lowest fares.

So, in conclusion, if you are booking a flight, Tuesdays and Wednesdays appear to be the days to find the lowest fares. This is not always the case, but worth checking.

One of the most consistent things that we have found is that booking well in advance, and rewards points can amount to the best savings on your flights.
